
History of the Jeep
What began in Butler, Pennsylvania in 1941 would eventually change the world with one of the most versatile vehicles every created. The Jeep was originally built for the U.S army as military vehicles and tested by the military also. This sports utility vehicle quickly gained a cult following as the primary lightweight 4-wheel-drive vehicle for the United States Army and Allied their Forces during World War II. Jeeps were used by every service of the U.S. military. An average of 145 were supplied to every Army infantry regiment. Jeeps were used for many different purposes, such as cable laying, saw milling, as firefighting pumpers, field ambulances, tractors and, with suitable wheels, would even run on railway tracks.
